Definition

AWS Control Tower is a managed service that helps organizations set up and govern a secure, multi-account AWS environment. It automates the creation of a landing zone, which includes setting up core accounts like the management account and logging account, and applies guardrails to enforce policies across your AWS accounts. This service simplifies the process of establishing a well-architected, secure, and compliant cloud foundation, enabling teams to deploy workloads with confidence. For instance, Control Tower can automatically prevent the deletion of critical resources or ensure encryption is enabled for all S3 buckets. It differs from simply setting up individual accounts because it provides a centralized governance framework and automated best practices. AWS Control Tower is relevant for AWS certification exams such as the AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate and AWS Certified Security Specialty.
