Controller-based automation is a network management approach where a central controller dictates the behavior of network devices. This centralized system pushes configurations and policies to devices, ensuring consistent operation across the entire network. Instead of individually configuring each switch or router, administrators manage the network's state from a single point. This simplifies complex network operations, reduces manual errors, and enables faster deployment of changes. For instance, a controller can automatically reconfigure firewall rules across all firewalls simultaneously in response to a new threat. This differs from traditional distributed or device-centric management where each device operates more independently. Controller-based automation is a key concept in modern networking certifications like CCNA.
