Event-driven architecture

PathTerms

Definition

Event-driven architecture EDA is a design pattern where software components communicate by producing and consuming events. Events are significant occurrences or state changes that trigger subsequent actions. This asynchronous communication model allows systems to react in real-time to changes without direct, synchronous requests between services. EDA enables loosely coupled systems that are more scalable, resilient, and adaptable to evolving business needs. For example, an e-commerce platform might use EDA to process orders, triggering inventory updates, payment processing, and shipping notifications independently. It differs from traditional request-response models by decoupling the producer of information from the consumer. Understanding EDA is crucial for AWS certification exams like the Solutions Architect Associate and cloud security certifications.
