Definition
FedRAMP, or the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, is a United States government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. It establishes a baseline set of security requirements that cloud service providers must meet to do business with federal agencies. Agencies leverage FedRAMP authorizations to ensure cloud services are secure and compliant, reducing redundant security assessments. For example, a cloud provider seeking to offer services to the Department of Defense must achieve a FedRAMP authorization. This differs from internal corporate security policies which are not standardized across all government entities. FedRAMP concepts are relevant for exams like CompTIA Security+, CySA+, and CISSP.
