GuardDuty

Also called: Amazon GuardDuty

PathTerms

Definition

Amazon GuardDuty is a managed threat detection service that continuously monitors for malicious activity and unauthorized behavior across your AWS accounts. It analyzes various data sources, including AWS CloudTrail logs, VPC Flow Logs, and DNS logs, to identify potential threats. GuardDuty uses machine learning, anomaly detection, and integrated threat intelligence to provide a comprehensive view of your security posture. This service helps organizations proactively identify and respond to security risks, reducing the likelihood of data breaches and other cyber incidents. For example, GuardDuty can alert you to unusual API activity, such as an attempt to disable logging, or detect compromised EC2 instances communicating with known malicious IP addresses. Unlike simpler intrusion detection systems, GuardDuty offers a broader, more integrated approach to threat detection within the AWS ecosystem. You will encounter GuardDuty concepts in AWS certification exams like the Solutions Architect Associate and cloud security certifications.
