Definition

Hardware components are the physical parts that make up a computer system or electronic device. These include essential elements like the central processing unit (CPU), memory (RAM), storage devices (hard drives, SSDs), motherboards, power supplies, and input/output peripherals. In practice, these components work together, connected via the motherboard, to execute instructions and process data. Understanding hardware components is crucial for troubleshooting, upgrading, and maintaining systems, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. For instance, identifying a failing hard drive is a common hardware component issue that requires replacement. Unlike software, which is intangible, hardware components are tangible and can be physically touched and replaced. This concept is fundamental to IT certifications like CompTIA A+ and Network+.
