Definition

Network detection and response NDR is a cybersecurity solution that monitors network traffic for malicious activity and provides tools to investigate and remediate threats. It uses advanced analytics, machine learning, and threat intelligence to identify suspicious patterns that traditional security tools might miss. NDR solutions continuously analyze network data, correlate events, and alert security teams to potential breaches in real time. This enables faster incident response, reducing the impact of security incidents and protecting sensitive data. For example, an NDR system might detect an unusual outbound connection from a server, indicating a potential data exfiltration attempt. Unlike network intrusion detection systems NIDS which primarily focus on alerting, NDR provides deeper visibility and response capabilities. NDR is a key topic in cybersecurity certifications like CompTIA Security+, CySA+, and CISSP.
