Operational Efficiency

PathTerms

Definition

Operational efficiency refers to the ability of an organization to deliver products or services using the minimum amount of resources. It focuses on optimizing processes, reducing waste, and maximizing output to achieve better results with less input. This is achieved by streamlining workflows, automating repetitive tasks, and improving resource allocation. Enhancing operational efficiency is crucial for increasing profitability, improving customer satisfaction, and gaining a competitive advantage. For instance, a cloud migration project that reduces server costs and improves application performance demonstrates operational efficiency. It is distinct from operational effectiveness, which focuses on doing the right things, while efficiency focuses on doing things right. This concept is frequently tested in project management certifications like PMP and CAPM.
