Quality Charts

PathTerms

Definition

Quality Charts are visual representations used to analyze and communicate the performance and characteristics of a system or process against predefined quality attributes. They typically plot various quality metrics, such as performance, security, reliability, and usability, against each other or against cost and time constraints. This allows teams to understand the trade-offs inherent in design decisions and identify areas for improvement. For instance, a Quality Chart might show how increasing system security might impact its response time. It differs from a simple checklist by providing a quantitative and comparative view of quality dimensions. Understanding Quality Charts is crucial for roles involved in system design, architecture, and ongoing operations, appearing in discussions relevant to certifications like the PMP and AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
