Definition
In cloud computing and IT infrastructure, a region is a distinct geographical area where a cloud provider has data centers. These data centers within a region are connected by low-latency links, forming a localized cluster of resources. This geographical separation allows for high availability and disaster recovery strategies by distributing workloads across multiple, independent locations. For instance, an organization might deploy its application in the US East region and its backup in the US West region to ensure service continuity. Regions are different from Availability Zones, which are isolated locations within a single region. Understanding regions is crucial for exams like AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate and CompTIA Cloud+.
