Router Deployment

PathTerms

Definition

Router deployment refers to the strategic process of installing, configuring, and integrating routers within a network infrastructure. This involves selecting appropriate router models based on performance needs, network topology, and security requirements, followed by their physical placement and logical setup. Routers are critical for directing network traffic between different subnets or external networks, ensuring efficient data flow and connectivity. For instance, deploying routers at the edge of a corporate network manages traffic between the internal LAN and the internet, acting as a gateway. Unlike a switch which operates at a lower network layer and connects devices within the same network segment, a router connects disparate networks. Understanding router deployment is fundamental for network administration and is tested in domains like CompTIA Network+ and Cisco CCNA certifications.
