Definition

SASE, or Secure Access Service Edge, is a cloud-native security framework that converges networking and security functions into a unified service. It delivers security and network capabilities, such as Zero Trust Network Access, secure web gateways, and SD-WAN, from the cloud edge. SASE enables organizations to securely connect users and devices to applications and data regardless of their location, improving agility and reducing complexity. This approach ensures consistent security policies and optimized network performance for remote and mobile workforces. For example, a company can use SASE to provide secure access to internal applications for employees working from home, while simultaneously preventing malware from entering the network. Unlike traditional perimeter-based security models, SASE focuses on user and device identity rather than network location. This concept is highly relevant for certifications like CompTIA Security+ and CCNA.
