Storage Management

PathTerms

Definition

Storage management refers to the processes and technologies used to organize, control, and optimize data storage resources within an IT environment. It encompasses activities like data provisioning, capacity planning, performance monitoring, data backup and recovery, and data security. Effective storage management ensures that data is accessible, protected, and available when needed, while also minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency. For instance, a system administrator might implement a tiered storage strategy, moving less frequently accessed data to slower, cheaper storage to save money. This differs from simple file organization by focusing on the underlying infrastructure and its strategic use. Concepts of storage management are often tested in domains related to IT infrastructure and cloud computing, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate.
