Streaming data

PathTerms

Definition

Streaming data refers to information that is generated continuously and sent in small packets over time, rather than being stored in large batches. This data flows in real time from sources like sensors, user activity logs, or financial transactions. It enables immediate analysis and action, allowing organizations to react to events as they happen. For instance, a retail company might stream sales data to detect fraudulent transactions instantly. Unlike batch processing, which analyzes data periodically, streaming data provides a constant, up to the minute view. This concept is frequently assessed on cloud security certifications like CCSP and AWS exams.
