Definition
TAXII, or Trusted Automated Exchange of Intelligence Information, is a set of specifications and protocols for sharing cyber threat intelligence. It defines how threat data is exchanged between different systems and organizations in a standardized way. TAXII works by establishing a common language and transport mechanism for threat indicators, enabling automated sharing. This is crucial for organizations to stay ahead of emerging threats by quickly incorporating new intelligence into their security defenses. For instance, a security operations center might use TAXII to automatically receive new malicious IP addresses from a threat intelligence feed. Unlike STIX, which defines the structure of threat intelligence, TAXII focuses on the transport of that intelligence. This concept is frequently tested on certifications like CompTIA Security+, CySA+, and CISSP.
