Definition
Value maximization is the strategic approach of ensuring that every investment, decision, or action taken within a project or organization yields the greatest possible benefit relative to its cost. It involves continuously evaluating and optimizing processes, resources, and outcomes to achieve the highest return on investment and meet stakeholder objectives. This is achieved by identifying core needs, eliminating waste, and focusing efforts on activities that directly contribute to desired results. For instance, a cloud migration project might maximize value by selecting services that offer scalability and cost savings over time, rather than simply replicating on premise infrastructure. It differs from simply minimizing cost, as true value maximization considers both benefits and expenses. This concept is fundamental to project management domains like PMP and CAPM.
