Cloud Adoption Framework

Also called: CAF

Definition

A Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) is a structured set of guidance, best practices, and tools designed to help organizations successfully migrate to and operate within a cloud computing environment. It provides a roadmap that addresses the strategic, technical, and organizational aspects of cloud transformation, ensuring a consistent and efficient approach. CAFs work by offering a repeatable methodology that covers planning, readiness assessment, migration, and governance, enabling organizations to manage complexity and risk. Understanding a CAF is crucial for making informed decisions about cloud strategy, optimizing resource utilization, and ensuring security and compliance. For instance, a CAF might guide a company through the steps of assessing its current IT infrastructure, selecting appropriate cloud services, and developing a phased migration plan. It differs from a simple cloud migration plan by encompassing ongoing operational management and continuous improvement, not just the initial move. This concept is frequently tested on AWS certification exams like the Solutions Architect Associate and in domains covered by the CCSP certification.
