Definition

In artificial intelligence, a model is a computational representation of a system or process, often learned from data. It encapsulates patterns, relationships, and decision rules that allow it to perform specific tasks, such as prediction, classification, or generation. Models are trained using algorithms that analyze vast datasets, enabling them to identify underlying structures and make informed inferences. On the job, models are crucial for automating complex tasks, optimizing operations, and gaining insights that would be impossible through manual analysis. For example, a fraud detection model can analyze transaction data in real time to flag suspicious activity, protecting financial institutions and their customers. Unlike a simple algorithm, a model is the output of a learning process, capable of adapting and improving with new data. This concept is fundamental to many AI certifications, including AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialty and CompTIA AI Fundamentals.
