Sprint Planning

PathTerms

Definition

Sprint Planning is a crucial agile event where a Scrum team collaborates to define the work to be performed in the upcoming Sprint. During this meeting, the Product Owner presents prioritized backlog items, and the Development Team selects items they can commit to completing, creating a Sprint Goal and a Sprint Backlog. This process ensures everyone understands the objectives and the tasks required to achieve them, fostering alignment and shared responsibility. For instance, a team might plan to develop and test a new user authentication feature within a two-week Sprint. It is distinct from daily stand-ups, which are shorter check-ins focused on progress and impediments. Sprint Planning is a key component tested on the PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP certifications.
