Stakeholder Engagement

PathTerms

Definition

Stakeholder Engagement is the ongoing process of interacting with individuals or groups who have an interest in or can influence a project's outcome. It involves understanding their needs, expectations, and concerns, and developing strategies to involve them effectively throughout the project lifecycle. This proactive communication and collaboration ensures that stakeholders are informed, their buy-in is secured, and potential conflicts are managed before they escalate. For example, a project manager might hold regular meetings with key department heads to gather feedback on a new software implementation. Effective engagement builds trust and support, which is crucial for project success, unlike simply informing stakeholders which can be a one-way communication. This concept is fundamental to project management principles tested on exams like the PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP.
