Earning the Associate Foundations credential positions you as a capable Claude practitioner ready to support customer and internal AI initiatives with confidence and accountability.
Anthropic's exam guide for CCAO-F (version 1.0, effective July 2026) lists 7 content domains and 30 tasks. We've copied every one below in Anthropic's own wording, with the weight Anthropic gives each domain. Our lessons and labs follow the same outline.
Here's how Anthropic describes the audience. The certification is intended for professionals who use Claude as a productivity tool and build Claude Projects in their day-to-day roles. They operate across functions such as operations, marketing, project management, education, communications, and general knowledge work, applying AI to improve efficiency, decision-making, and content development. The audience includes both internal staff who maintain and optimize ongoing AI-enabled workflows and external consultants who support implementation, use-case identification, and process redesign. Candidates generally have limited to moderate technical expertise. They are positioned between casual AI prompt users and technical AI practitioners, and are distinguished by their ability to translate business objectives into effective AI interactions, select appropriate tools and features, create structured prompts, critically evaluate AI-generated content, adapt outputs for different audiences, and recognize when human expertise, validation, or escalation is required. This certification is not intended for software developers who build against APIs or design agentic systems, nor for specialists in machine learning, software engineering, or advanced AI system design. Candidates are not expected to design enterprise-scale AI architectures or integrations, that scope belongs to the Claude Architect and Claude Developer credentials, to which Associates escalate more complex or technical work.
About prerequisites, Anthropic says: There are no mandatory prerequisites or required courses, and no software-development or API experience is needed. The experience above is recommended, not required. The credential is awarded based on exam performance alone.
The exam is criterion referenced. You're measured against a fixed standard set by subject matter experts, not against other candidates. Your domain percentages help you see where you were strong or weak, but only the total scaled score decides pass or fail.
We start with Prompting and Task Execution, which Anthropic weights at 14%. It has 4 tasks in the guide, and each one gets a lesson plus a short lab.
Next we cover Output Evaluation and Validation, worth about 21% of the exam. It has 6 tasks in the guide, and each one gets a lesson plus a short lab.
Then we move to Product and Model Selection, at roughly 12% of scored items. It has 4 tasks in the guide, and each one gets a lesson plus a short lab.
After that comes Workflow Integration and Solution Design, which makes up about 16%. It has 5 tasks in the guide, and each one gets a lesson plus a short lab.
We follow with Configuration and Knowledge Management, which Anthropic weights at 12%. It has 4 tasks in the guide, and each one gets a lesson plus a short lab.
Then it's Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use, worth about 15% of the exam. It has 4 tasks in the guide, and each one gets a lesson plus a short lab.
We wrap up with Troubleshooting and Optimization, at roughly 10% of scored items. It has 3 tasks in the guide, and each one gets a lesson plus a short lab.
Output Evaluation and Validation carries the most weight at 21%, so it gets the most lab time. In the final week you work the sample questions in Anthropic's guide, then retest the domains where you were weakest.
Anthropic says there's no single required course and no resource guarantees a pass. Its guide recommends these steps, and we build our labs around them.
You register through the Anthropic Partner Academy and schedule with Pearson VUE, either online or at a test center. You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your appointment. Changes inside 24 hours forfeit the exam fee, and so does a no-show.
Bring a valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID, and make sure the name matches your registration exactly. Accommodations have to be requested and approved by Pearson VUE before you schedule.
If you don't pass, the waits grow with each attempt: 14 days after the first, 30 days after the second and 90 days after the third. You can take an exam up to four times in a rolling 12-month period, and the fee applies to every attempt.
The Claude Certified Associate Foundations credential is valid for 12 months. To renew on time, you review what's changed and complete a free, non-proctored assessment on the Anthropic Partner Academy. If it lapses, you retake the full exam at the full fee.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the median annual wage for computer systems analysts was $105,850 in May 2025. A median is the midpoint, so half earned more and half earned less, and your own pay will depend on location, experience and employer. Source: BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook.
