Definition
Conflict management is the process of identifying, addressing, and resolving disagreements or disputes within a team or organization. It involves understanding the root causes of conflict, applying appropriate strategies to de-escalate tensions, and facilitating constructive dialogue to reach mutually acceptable solutions. Effective conflict management fosters a more collaborative and productive work environment by preventing minor issues from escalating into major disruptions. For instance, a project manager might mediate a disagreement between two team members over resource allocation by facilitating a discussion where both perspectives are heard and a compromise is reached. This differs from simply ignoring conflict, which often leads to resentment and decreased morale. Proficiency in conflict management is essential for success on the PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP examinations.
