Definition
An increment represents a usable, potentially shippable piece of work produced during an agile iteration or sprint. It is the sum of all the Product Backlog items completed during a sprint and the value of all increments of previous sprints. In practice, teams deliver increments regularly, allowing for continuous feedback and adaptation. This iterative delivery is crucial for demonstrating progress, reducing risk, and ensuring the product evolves to meet stakeholder needs. For instance, a software team might deliver a fully functional user login system as an increment. This contrasts with a partially completed feature that cannot be used independently. Concepts of increment are foundational in agile methodologies and appear on exams like the PMI-ACP and CAPM.
