Definition
A Development Team is a cross-functional, self-organizing group of individuals responsible for delivering a potentially releasable increment of product at the end of each iteration. This team possesses all the skills necessary to create the product increment without relying on external groups or individuals. In practice, the Development Team works collaboratively, making decisions about how to best accomplish their work. It matters because this structure fosters ownership, accountability, and rapid feedback loops, leading to higher quality and more adaptable products. For instance, a software Development Team might include developers, testers, and designers who collectively decide on the implementation details for a new feature. A common point of confusion is mistaking the Development Team for a traditional project team where tasks are assigned by a manager. the Development Team self-organizes to complete the work. This concept is fundamental to Agile methodologies and appears on exams like the PMI-ACP, CAPM, and PMP.
