RAID log

PathTerms

Definition

A RAID log is a project management tool used to track potential roadblocks that could impact a project's success. It categorizes issues into Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies, providing a structured way to manage uncertainty. This log helps teams proactively identify and address potential problems before they derail progress. By documenting these elements, project managers can foster transparency and facilitate informed decision making. For instance, a risk might be a vendor delay, an assumption could be that a key resource will be available, an issue might be a technical bug, and a dependency could be the completion of another team's task. While similar to a risk register, a RAID log is broader, encompassing assumptions and dependencies alongside risks and issues. This concept is frequently tested on PMP, CAPM, and PMI-ACP examinations.
