Definition
Secure SDLC, or Secure Software Development Lifecycle, is a process that integrates security considerations into every phase of software development, from initial planning and design through coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. It aims to proactively identify and mitigate vulnerabilities before they can be exploited, rather than addressing them after the software is released. By embedding security practices throughout the development lifecycle, organizations can build more robust and resilient applications. This approach involves activities like threat modeling, secure coding standards, security testing, and regular security reviews. Implementing a Secure SDLC is crucial for protecting sensitive data, maintaining customer trust, and complying with regulatory requirements. For example, a financial application might undergo rigorous security testing for common web vulnerabilities like SQL injection and cross-site scripting during its development. Unlike traditional SDLCs that often treat security as an afterthought, Secure SDLC makes it a core component from the outset. This concept is frequently tested on certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, and CISSP.
