Definition

A Sprint is a timeboxed iteration within an agile development framework, typically lasting one to four weeks, during which a specific set of work is completed and made ready for review. During a Sprint, a cross functional team works collaboratively to deliver a potentially shippable increment of the product. Understanding Sprints is crucial for effective agile project management, enabling predictable delivery and continuous feedback loops. For instance, a software team might dedicate a Sprint to developing and testing a new user authentication feature. Unlike continuous delivery, which aims for immediate deployment, Sprints focus on delivering discrete, tested increments at the end of each timebox. This concept is fundamental to agile methodologies and appears on exams like the PMI-ACP and CAPM.
