Stakeholder

Definition

A stakeholder is any individual group or organization that can affect or be affected by a project's outcome. This includes team members sponsors customers suppliers and even regulatory bodies. In practice identifying and understanding stakeholder needs and expectations is crucial for project success. Their engagement and support can significantly influence the project's direction and ultimate acceptance. For instance a software development project's stakeholders might include end users who provide feedback on usability and the IT department responsible for deployment. A common point of confusion is mistaking a stakeholder for a mere customer as stakeholders encompass a broader range of interests. Understanding stakeholders is fundamental in project management domains tested on PMP CAPM and PMI-ACP examinations.
