Microsoft Certification Training Course

Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) Certification Training Course

We'll get you ready for Exam DP-700, the Microsoft Fabric credential for data engineers.

Course focus: Implementing and managing a Fabric analytics solution, ingesting and transforming data, and monitoring and tuning, mapped to the DP-700 study guide.
Course Overview

What the DP-700 course covers and who it's for.

Per Microsoft, DP-700 is for data engineers who work with data loading patterns, data architectures and orchestration in Microsoft Fabric.

The three domains are weighted evenly at 30 to 35%. We build pipelines, dataflows and notebooks, work with batch and streaming data, then monitor and tune what we built.

Microsoft says DP-700 candidates ingest and transform data, secure and manage an analytics solution, and monitor and optimize it. You work with analytics engineers, architects, analysts and admins, and you should be skilled with SQL, PySpark and KQL.

DP-203 retired and Microsoft pointed data engineers to Fabric. DP-700 is the current data engineering credential and it covers batch, streaming and orchestration in one platform.

Course Objectives

Get ready for DP-700 the way the exam is built.

01

Cover the Whole Study Guide

Work through all 3 skill areas in Microsoft's DP-700 study guide, weighted the way the exam weights them.

02

Go Deep on the Biggest Domain

Implement and manage an analytics solution is 30 to 35% of the exam per Microsoft, so it gets the most class time.

03

Practice Hands-On

Work through the tasks the DP-700 study guide lists, hands on.

04

Master Implement and manage an analytics solution

Microsoft lists 18 skills here, worth 30 to 35%. We practice all of them, from the first, configure Spark workspace settings, through the last, implement orchestration patterns with notebooks and pipelines, including parameters and dynamic expressions.

05

Master Ingest and transform data

Microsoft lists 19 skills here, worth 30 to 35%. We practice all of them, from the first, design and implement full and incremental data loads, through the last, create windowing functions.

06

Master Monitor and optimize an analytics solution

Microsoft lists 17 skills here, worth 30 to 35%. We practice all of them, from the first, monitor data ingestion, through the last, optimize query performance.

07

Be Ready for Test Day

We practice the question styles Microsoft uses and walk through how scheduling, scoring and renewal work.

Who Should Attend

  • Data engineers moving to Microsoft Fabric.
  • ETL and pipeline developers.
  • Database and analytics professionals.
  • Former DP-203 candidates.

Prerequisites

  • Microsoft doesn't require another certification first, and we don't have enrollment prerequisites either.
  • Experience with SQL, PySpark and KQL helps.

Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate badge

Per Microsoft, DP-700 is the exam for Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate. Microsoft lists 100 minutes of exam time for associate exams like this one. You need a score of 700 or greater to pass. Microsoft sets the price by country and shows it on the exam page.

Full details are on the official certification page and the DP-700 study guide.

Inside the Course

A closer look at each DP-700 domain.

The course starts with setting up and managing a Fabric analytics solution. Workspace settings, Spark and domain configuration, lifecycle management with Git and deployment pipelines, and security from workspace roles down to row, column and object level controls. You'll also orchestrate work with pipelines and notebooks and set schedules and triggers.

Ingesting and transforming data is where you'll spend the most hands-on time. Full and incremental loads, dimensional models, batch and streaming data, shortcuts and mirroring, and transforms with PySpark, SQL and KQL. You'll handle duplicate, missing and late arriving data the way the study guide asks.

The third domain covers monitoring and tuning. You'll monitor ingestion, transformation and semantic model refresh, fix failed pipelines, dataflows, notebooks and eventstreams, and tune lakehouse tables, Spark and queries. Microsoft weights this domain the same as the others, so we give it full time.

By the end you'll know how to build a pipeline, prove it works and keep it running.

If you held DP-203, the ideas will feel familiar, but the tools are different. Fabric replaces a lot of separate Azure services with one workspace, and the exam expects you to work inside it.

Here's how a typical week of class runs. We open each session with a short review of the last domain, teach the new skills with live demos, then you build the same thing yourself in a Fabric workspace. You'll load a source with a pipeline, transform it in a notebook with PySpark, query the result with SQL and KQL, and then break something on purpose so you can practice finding and fixing the failure. That last step matters. Microsoft gives monitoring and optimizing a full third of the exam, and most people only learn it after something fails in production.

We also spend time on choosing between tools. Fabric often gives you two or three ways to do the same job, like a dataflow, a pipeline or a notebook. The exam asks which one fits a scenario, so we compare them side by side and talk about cost, speed and who on the team will maintain it.

Study Plan

A study plan for DP-700 built from the study guide.

Time follows Microsoft's domain weights, so you study what the exam asks most.

Step 1: Implement and manage an analytics solution

Spend about 35% of your study time here. First, configure Spark workspace settings. Then implement row-level, column-level, object-level, and folder/file-level access controls. Last, implement orchestration patterns with notebooks and pipelines, including parameters and dynamic expressions.

Step 2: Ingest and transform data

Spend about 35% of your study time here. First, design and implement full and incremental data loads. Then denormalize data. Last, create windowing functions.

Step 3: Monitor and optimize an analytics solution

Spend about 35% of your study time here. First, monitor data ingestion. Then identify and resolve Eventstream errors. Last, optimize query performance.

Step 4: Review and book

Take Microsoft's free practice assessment, review the domains you scored lowest in, and book the exam once you're scoring well.
